About Me

Hi and thanks for reading more about me!

I’m Allan Butler. I live in Austin, Texas, and I’m a Data Scientist at H-E-B. I’ve been working in machine learning and statistics for about 10 years.

My story

I’m an Eagle Scout. When I was in Boy Scouts, I put together over 200 medical aid kits for the Red Cross, which was one of the more rewarding things I’ve done.

I got my Master’s from the University of Houston, where my research was on forecasting demand and estimating volatility in the secondary ticket market using ARCH/GARCH models. I also did a Statistical Learning course through Stanford and a Data Science Specialization on Coursera.

Work

At H-E-B, I build machine learning models and work across the whole data science stack — data engineering, feature development, model deployment, monitoring. I like the variety of it.

I’m a member of the American Economic Association, the North American Association of Sports Economists, and the Houston Economics Club.
